    Stay At Home Mother

A mother  who dedicates their time to raising their child(ren), instead of going out to work and paying for childcare. This was common in Britain until the mid-1970s 1

There was a massive keening noise as wealthy household SAHMs were impacted by the 2010 decree that people who earned over £50k could afford to pay for their own children so child benefit was withdrawn. Britain’s tax system taxes individually but the welfare system allocates benefits to households. There was much yelling of ‘snot fair by SAHMs because a household with two working parents could earn twice as much as one with only one parent working before child benefit was withdrawn.

What on earth is that keening noise?
